Project 1: The Alan Senitt Hillel Student Centre
Three and a half years after it begun its work, The Alan Senitt Memorial Trust has been offered a fantastic opportunity that we simply cannot and should not turn down.
We have the chance to name the brand new UJS-Hillel London Student Centre after Alan, a permanent memorial that could not be more fitting to the man Alan was. The centre serves 2000 Jewish students providing a home for Jewish student activity, kosher food and a chance to meet like minded people.
During his time at UJS, Alan inspired and influenced the building of student centres at campuses across the country. To recognise this contribution and to ensure the provision of Jewish social, cultural, educational and interfaith programmes in a specialised communal hub, we need to raise £150,000 over the next 3 years, and we need your help.
We will be holding a number of fundraising events to raise funds for this project and we are also taking pledges of money for the centre.
Project 2: The Alan Senitt Community Leadership Programme
Our community leadership programme brings together year 10 pupils from 4 different schools to gain skills to enable them to make a difference within their local community. The course which is run in conjunction with Maccabi Streetwise and The Three Faiths Forum (under the government backed shared futures project), brings the pupils together for seminars once a months where they take part in session about leadership skills and inclusivity, the course brings all the skills together that they learn in seminars to enable them to run a project to enhance their local community.
The class of 2008/09 ran several different projects;
Nower Hill High School in Pinner went and spent time at a local Day Centre for the Elderly to help break down barriers and stereotypes between young people and the elderly.
Immanual High School in Bushey went to a local primary school where they helped pupils in year 2 who needed extra help with reading.
Watford Grammer Boys School ran sessions for year 6 pupils in local primary schools to prepare them for starting high school in the following September.
Guru Nanack in Hayes helped to clean up their local park and made bird shelters to help bring the wildlife back to the park.
